Sound Painter

Date2006

soundPainterSound Painter is a tool for creating or modifying augmented audio soundscapes. It consists of a Flash movie running on a GPS enabled PDA.

Using Sound Painter in ‘edit mode’, the audience can associate mp3 sound files with their current location by storing the GPS coordinates for their location. When in ‘play mode’ the audience will hear the mp3 files play automatically, via headphones connected to the PDA, when they enter one of the stored locations. When they leave the location, in other words when the GPS coordinates do not match those saved, the sound stops.

Soundscapes can be created or modified by adding new locations, ‘moving’ sounds to new locations or deleting sounds.
